The Ulyate’s arrived in 1907 together with our other relatives: Smith, Rooken Smith, Brown, etc. and farmed mainly in the Elementaita area. Then Grandfather Ray got into the hotel and Hunting business in Tanzania – owning New Arusha hotel and other farms. Father Jack was born in 1908, he was involved in Granfathers business & then went farming.

He also was worked at Stag’s Head in Nakuru.
Brother Stan went to Duke of York (Delamere) He did military service with KR then left for UK where he too trained in hotel business.
Few cousins left – mainly farming.
Working on producing a Google map of ‘colonial Farms’ – with a bias at the moment towards relatives but opening out to include neighbours etc.
Always open to anyone who can assist in pinpoint farms providing boundaries, years etc.
