Born in Nairobi in 1943, parents had been living there since the late 1930's (Nyeri and Naro Moru).
Lived for many years in Mombasa, then Moshi, Nairobi, Jinja and Nakuru.
Attended St Mary's School from 1952 until 1960
Played Rugby and Hockey for Impala Club after leaving school. Formed Water Polo Team with Pete Blunt.
